Sanyo Announces new laser diode for Recordable Blu-ray Discs
October 6, 2008 | Recordable Blu-ray
Sanyo announced on the 3rd of October that they have developed a new Blu-ray laser diode capable of recording up to 12x through 4 layer recordable Blu-ray discs. This means that 100GB Blu-ray media is no longer part of the road map but an achievable goal. With this Sanyo also developed a new protective film for the laser called LASTECH which allows the diode to operate more efficiently and convert more power into the laser.
There have been many challenges in the development of more powerful Blu-ray laser diodes that could acheive the capability of recording through 4 layer recordable Blu-ray discs. This would increase recording capacity to 4 hours.
